One of the fiercely debated issues of the present time is the question of violence and monotheism in particular in connection with death. From the narrowly avoided sacrifice of Isaac, to the topic of holy wars, from funeral rites and the religious imagination attached to death and dying in tribal societies to the challenge modern society poses to age old belief systems like Voodo - the authors of the present study tackle the question of the relevancy and sustainability of the Christian faith in the midst of this spiritually explosive situation. The goal is not so much to produce ready made answers to the questions of our time, but rather to delimitate their historical, philosophical and spiritual horizon. This, in turn, could indicate a pathway that would allow an open dialogue with the forces that shape the contemporary debate on faith and religion. von Mooren, Thomas
