Beschreibung
The Cold War was not as cold, as the term for the conflict between the two superpowers, the United States and the Soviet Union, might suggest. Especially in many parts of the so-called Third World, this war seemed to be rather hot. Despite the direct confrontation of the two blocs in several proxy wars, the conflict had a tremendous effect, not just in Korea or Vietnam. The present anthology brings together specialists from several fields of historical research to show these effects of the Cold War on the global peripheries. It will attempt to analyze the consequences, of the so called battle for the hearts and minds of ordinary people, in several countries of Africa, Asia, and South America. It will thereby provide, a more global and comparative perspective, on the transnational events of the Cold War, that did not just shape the world into communism and capitalism, but ultimately changed the lives of many people in every corner of the globe.
