Beschreibung
This is a study of the life and culture of a small group of Moroccan Germans and how they attempted to exert political influence. At the end of the 19th century some 40 German merchants and diplomats were living with their families in Morocco. Around the turn of the century these Moroccan Germans attempted to gain influence on the inner workings of Morocco and on the German government to prevent Morocco from coming under a French protectorate. Their goal was to have part of the country be declared a German colony. This study also illuminates the struggle of the Moroccan Germans to receive compensation for confiscations they suffered in the aftermath of 1918 and the many difficulties they experienced trying to gain footing during the German Reich. von Mai, Gunther
