Beschreibung
From the smoky mills of Victorian Scotland to the heart of the Nigerian jungle, Mary Slessor's journey was nothing short of extraordinary. Born into poverty, she defied a world of rigid expectations to become a force for change in a land where she was meant to be a stranger. As a lone missionary in the wild Okoyong territory, she lived among the people, fought tirelessly against the barbaric practice of twin-killing, and became a beloved figure known simply as "Mma" or "mother." But her story goes far beyond a tale of faith. This book explores Slessor's groundbreaking role as a diplomat and judge, her courage in the face of immense personal hardship, and the complex legacy of a woman who was both a humanitarian icon and a product of the colonial era. A powerful and gripping biography, " The Pioneer of Calabar: Mary Slessor" uncovers the life of a true trailblazer whose actions changed a nation and continue to inspire today.
