Since the age of six, the author, Karsten Reimer, has been connected to the water. Born and raised in Kiel on the Baltic Sea, he researched the Baltic Sea and its flora and fauna at a very early age, using minimal equipment, often self made. So it was hard to prevent that he, discovered the scuba diving for himself. From 1980 to 1986 he learned and taught diving at the "legendary Henrys Dive Shop" in Kiel and was therefore able to drop his first diving instructor degree on Elba in May 1986. From 1986 to the present day, the author has continued his training in scuba diving and technical diving and passed many courses and exams. In 1996, together with several other instructors, he founded the diving association IDA, which today is active with nearly 1.600 instructors at home and abroad. The author is 58 years old, still loves to dive, especially in the Baltic Sea, and still works as an instructor, although not as often as in the early years. Karsten Reimer is President and Instructor Examiner of IDA (International Diving Association) and manages this association, together with his partner since 1996.
